Spring Masters Camp 2024
By Roddy Ward
It was another incredible 3 day camp at the Canmore Nordic Centre! As usual, March in Canmore delivered with amazing weather and incredible ski conditions all over the Nordic Centre.
This camp we focused hard on individualized technical feedback. Every athlete received individualized feedback within every session and after every session. The Ipads were burning hot with use!
Here is what we accomplished over the camp.
5 skiing sessions filled with ski technique and drills. We covered offset, one skate, two skate, diagonal stride, and double pole.
Lunchtime ski technique and social time
Absolutely tons of individualized video analysis sessions
Strength training for cross country skiing, delivered by Neil Fox at the Bill Warren Training Centre.
Guest speaker Kelly Drager (Calgary Sport Institute) delivered an incredibly informative nutrition talk at our team dinner. Tons of great advice for the adult skier and interesting stories about working with national team athletes in various Olympic sports. Kelly stayed afterwards to socialize, eat, and answered many questions!
Team dinner & social at the Iron Goat restaurant.
A great social environment to get to know, have discussions with, and learn from like minded folks
There was a ton of technical progress made for everyone. We really hit the technique hard after so much feedback from the participants in our first two camps that they wanted tons of technique! We responded and it was very well received. Future camps we will continue a focus on individualized technical feedback. What we can do so well is keep our athlete to coach ratios low so we can provide a lot of individualized feedback to each athlete. We will continue to bring in different expertise and different practitioners to deliver strength, nutrition, mental performance, motivation, mentorship, physiology and many more relevant topics to the master/adult cross country skier.
Stay tuned to series of camps we have planned for next winter!
