December 2023 Masters Camp Recap

By Roddy Ward

It was a fantastic long weekend of training at the Canmore Nordic Centre! I was extremely pleased to get this camp off the ground in partnership with Trail Sports. Coaching staff was myself and Kim Csizmazia, General Manager of Trail Sports

We had a great group is keen cross country skiers who were an absolute please to coach. Here is what we accomplished over the camp.

  • Meet at greet social at Trail Sports to start the camp

  • 5 skiing sessions filled with ski technique and drills (and a couple fun games!) in both skate and classic

  • Lunchtime ski technique and “how to train for cross country skiing” talks

  • Daily individualized video analysis sessions

  • Strength training and mobility for cross country skiing

  • Guest speaker Morgan Rogers delivered a talk about mental skills and mental health, geared towards the masters skier

  • A great social environment to get to know, have discussions with, and learn from like minded folks

The Canmore Nordic Centre had received a big dump of snow the day before we began. It was actually snowing heavily during our meet and greet on the Thursday evening. The trails were in amazing conditions for the entire camp! The Canmore Nordic Centre was an incredible venue for a camp with the world class trail network, the Bill Warren Training Centre for our gym sessions, and the day lodge with our private meeting room and the Cornerstone Café Catering for lunches.

I am so stoked to do more camps!

Skiing in “the meadow”. World class views!

Final afternoon skiing above the stadium

Beautiful classic ski on the upper trails (Rundle trail) at the Canmore Nordic Centre
